Advanced Health Data Institute (AHEAD)

The Advanced Health Data (AHEAD) Research Institute at Saint Louis University is a comprehensive center for data-driven innovation and research aimed at improving the health of individuals and populations. The institute brings together researchers from various fields and disciplines to help improve patient and population health, advance the quality of health care and decrease health care costs. The new institute will utilize and develop data resources; novel analytic methods; predictive modeling; machine learning; and integrated, wearable health devices and will collaborate with national research networks.

The Geospacial Institute at SLU

Saint Louis University has been at the center of the nation’s geospatial enterprise since the Corps of Discovery returned to St. Louis with maps of the Louisiana territory in 1806. More than 200 years later, the Geospatial Institute at Saint Louis University continues to expand the frontier of geospatial science and technology. The Geospatial Institute brings together faculty and students from various disciplines to support and accelerate research, training and innovation in geospatial science and technology. The Geospatial Institute provides students with hands-on opportunities in a variety of research areas and provides training opportunities to address the enormous demand for new geospatial researchers and analysts in the St. Louis area.

The Institute for Drug and Biotherapeutic Innovation

The IDBI leverages its members’ deep expertise in medicine, biology, engineering, computational and applied chemistry to discover, develop and translate new medical therapies to address unmet patient needs as part of the University’s mission to serve humanity. As an academic based drug discovery institute, the IDBI has as an integral part of its mission the education of students at all levels of their career. IDBI members teach classes, mentor students, and welcome both graduate and undergraduate students into their labs, expanding classroom education into real-world research experience. IDBI members create opportunities for SLU undergraduate and graduate students to participate in drug development, including projects in chemistry, biology, pharmacology, computational and business development.

Institute for Healing Justice and Equity

This institute, founded by a multidisciplinary group of SLU faculty, has the potential to transform SLU into the epicenter of equitable community building and knowledge curation related to healing from social injustice, trauma and oppression. 

Goal: $2,500

SLU Center for Additive Manufacturing (SLU-CAM)

Established in 2019 through a competitive grant from the Saint Louis University Research Institute, SLU-CAM is a resource for 3D printing, computer aided design and related activities, available to faculty, students and the community at large. The Center houses two state-of-the-art industrial 3D printers; an FDM printer capable of printing a wide variety of materials, and a polyjet printer, capable of printing different colors and durometers within the same object. The Center has other 3D printers and laser cutters as well.

Goal: $2,500

Stephen C. Peiper and Zi-Xuan Wang Institute for Vaccine Science and Policy

Gifts made to this project will support the Stephen C. Peiper and Zi-Xuan Wang Institute for Vaccine Science and Policy at Saint Louis University in conducting research for development of vaccines to protect against global health problems, including pandemic influenza, RSV, tuberculosis, flavivirus and COVID-19.

Goal: $2,500

The WATER Institute

The Water Access Technology, Environment and Resources (WATER) Institute at Saint Louis University is the first of its kind in the American Midwest. Inspired by the University's Jesuit identity, the mission of the WATER Institute is to advance water innovation to serve humanity. WATER Institute faculty investigators conduct interdisciplinary research that addresses critical resource challenges both locally and around the world. They work to develop clean water access, protect aquatic ecosystems and improve water infrastructure to secure water supplies and address key societal needs.

McCulla Bridge Fund Challenge
The Summer Science Research Program for High School Students provides an immersive research experience for high school students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. In this program, students work with faculty mentors on summer research projects and take part in career readiness activities. Today, once 10 gifts are made to the McCulla Bridge fund, an additional $1,200 will be unlocked by generous faculty member Ryan McCulla. Once 20 gifts have been made, an additional $3,800 will be unlocked from generous alumnus Kyle Howerton. (AS '08).
